Chennai: For Purnima Kashyap, the year-long custody battle for her son is far from over. She came to Chennai more than a year ago from Australia to fight for the custody rights of her son.
The Madras High Court was supposed to deliver the verdict on Monday, but with High Court lawyers on a strike for the past three days, her case has been adjourned.
"Unfortunately, this strike has affected me badly for I could not hear my judgement and my lawyers are on strike," says Purnima.
It's the same story for most of the cases being heard at the Madras High Court. Barring government lawyers, all other lawyers are on strike and their demand — arrest the two men who allegedly beat up two of their men at the Stanley Medical Hospital last week.
The lawyers stopped attending court on Friday alleging that no action had been taken against the guilty so far.
"Till date there has been no action from any side. We have talked to the Chief Justice and we are continuing our agitation. It is going on all over Tamil Nadu and from Tuesday we have decided to intensify the strike," says a lawyer of the Madras High Court.
While the Madras High Court Advocates Association is planning to hold a meeting on Tuesday to decide its future course of action, the High Court has asked the Joint Commissioner of Police to conduct an inquiry into the incident.
The courtrooms are shut because of the strike, but it is the ordinary people who seem to be suffering the most.
