Plot to kill Sadhvi Pragya's lawyers foiled: police
Nashik: Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, who is accused of involvement in the Malegaon blasts, was on Monday sent to judicial custody till November 17 as the police presented before the court transcripts of her telephone conversation with another accused.
The Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) of the Maharashtra Police alleges that according to the transcripts it clear that Thakur allegedly admitted her motorcycle was used in the blasts in the town on September 29.
The ATS presented before the chief judicial magistrate's court in Nashik transcripts in which Thakur allegedly asks another accused, Ramnarayan Singh, why such few people had died in the blasts. (Excerpts from the transcripts)
Sadhvi: They (police) will take me away today evening.
Ramji: Why?
Sadhvi: They've found my bike in connection with Malegaon blasts.
Ramji: But hadn't you sold the bike?
Sadhvi: Where should I tell them I sold it? MP, Gujarat or Maharashtra?
Ramji: Tell them Gujarat.
Sadhvi: What if they ask me when I sold it?
Ramji: Tell them you don't remember.
Sadhvi: Why did so few people die? Why didn't you park (the bike) in a crowded area?
Ramji: I tried to park the bike in a crowded area but didn't get space. And there were no crowds where I finally managed to park. We'll manage if something major happens.
Thakur fainted in the chief judicial magistrate's court in Nashik as hundreds of activists of Shiv Sena, BJP, Hindu Maha Sabha and Abhinav Bharat held demonstrations outside in her support.
The Sadhvi and her two alleged accomplices Shyam Bhavarlal Sahu and Shiv Narain Singh Kalsangra were produced in the court by the ATS as their custody remand ended Monday.
IANS reports the ATS drew a blank in the lie detector and brain mapping tests performed on the Sadhvi at a laboratory in Kalina in Mumbai last week.
Claiming that the ATS has come closer to a breakthrough in their investigations, special public prosecutor Ajay Misar told the court that it would help them in the interrogation of others in their custody.
The Sadhvi, who argued her own case, however, told the court that she and the two others arrested along with her were innocent and were being implicated as part of a larger game to defame Hindutva movement.
She also alleged torture on the part of the ATS sleuths during her interrogation before and after her formal arrest.
“I will speak only when justice will be done and time is needed for that,” she told the court.
BJP steps up support
In Delhi, the BJP alleged Pragya was being ''harassed'' and the case against her was ''sponsored''.
Party spokesperson Ravi Shanker Prasad said people found guilty of terrorism must be punished, but ''at the same time, there should not be any sponsored investigation''.
Prasad said there had been bomb blasts in Malegaon in 2006, but it was surprising that all the allegations mentioned by the ATS in the charge sheet, including the involvement of Pakistani terrorists, had been completely reversed with regard to the blasts in the town in 2008.
