THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: K R Rajagopal, state committee and national council member of BJP, will be fielded as the party’s candidate for the Piravom by-election. The candidature of Rajagopal, proposed by the Ernakulam district committee of the party, was approved by the state leadership meeting held here on Wednesday.
Rajagopal, who is active in the BJP for the last 20 years, had entered politics through ABVP. He has served as president of Rayamangalam panchayat committee and Perumbavoor mandalam committee, Yuva Morcha district president, district secretary and district vice-president of the party. He has contested the Assembly election from Perumbavoor in 2000 and from Kunnathunadu constituency in 2005. Son of former Health Minister K G R Kartha, Rajagopal is a known lawyer in the district. He has also served as Central Government counsel in the High Court and CentralAdministrative Tribunal for six years. Pushpa Rajagopal is his wife. Bharathraj Kartha and Adithyaraj Kartha are his children.
