CNN-IBN

Washington DC: Former president A P J Abdul Kalam celebrated his 76th birthday in the United States, on Monday

Kalam cut his birthday cake in the company of India's Ambassador to the US, Ronen Sen, and several US Senators.

The former president is currently making a tour of four states in America and was in Maryland as the chief guest at an event ogranised by Indian-American members of a spiritual organisation.

October 18 will see him in Houston, Texas, to deliver a Presidential Lecture on Vision for Space Science and Technology at Rice University.

In a manner befitting his scientific nature, Kalam said, "My age is 76, what does it mean? The Earth rotates on its own axis, all of you agree. Then, earth orbits around the sun. How much time it takes? One year. I'm now in the 77th orbit around the Sun. That means my age is 76."
