New Delhi: The VIP accused in the CWG scam are unlikely to enjoy VIP treatment hereon, after Tihar Jail authorities on Monday admitted that VIP inmates were getting special privileges.
"Found former OC chief Suresh Kalmadi having tea and snacks with the jail superitendant at Jail No. 4 where he is lodged. This happened on 30th June," said Tihar Jail DIG Prisons RN Sharma.
Nearly a week after reports of several VIP inmates including former OC chief Suresh Kalmadi enjoying special privileges in the Capital's Tihar jail, three officials have been suspended.
According to the judge, it wasn't only Kalmadi who was found enjoying special privileges. Others like Vikas Yadav and Vishal Yadav, who are serving a life term for the murder of Nitish Katara, were seen strolling in the jail garden when they should have been locked inside their cells.
An enquiry conducted by the vigilance cell of the Tihar Jail found several people guilty. Three jail officials including two assistant superintendents and a head warden have been suspended and disciplinary action recommended against the Jail Superintendent, who has already been transferred to Port Blair.
"Disciplinary action will be taken against the Jail Superintendent. We have written to Delhi Government about this," said RN Sharma.
This incident has come as a huge embarrassment for the jail authorities. While they have always claimed that all prisoners here are given equal treatment, they have now had to admit that VIP inmates do get VIP treatment.
