Chennai: Popular English writer Jeffrey Archer is on a quick tour of India to publicize his new book Paths of Glory, and his first stop was at Chennai on Monday night.
Archer said, "It's a story set in 1924 of a person called George Mallory, who quite possibly was the first person to conquer Everest. He was seen at about 620 feet from the top-that's a known fact. Whether he reached the top or not, we don't know. When they found his body in 1999 and when they found his wallet (he'd said he'd leave his wife's photograph on the Everest) and there was no photograph in his wallet…"
That's a sneak peek into Jeffrey Archers latest book Paths of Glory by the man himself. And it wasn't just publicizing his latest novel that was on Archer's agenda. The man is looking for a financier to back a film on his book.
Archer said, "Any one of them please!!!!-there's been lot of people ringing up about Paths of Glory, because the lead part-the George Mallory part is such an amazing part for a young man. We've got a director, Bruce Beresford, who got an Oscar for Driving Miss Daisy is really, very keen to direct it. The problem is raising the money. So if I meet anyone in India who says I've got 40 million-I'd be the first to say, "It's yours."
Archer also released translations of his earlier works into Tamil and Malayalam on the occasion.
“I'm immensely proud of the fact that I'm translated in five languages in India-there are not many authors who can say and that don't include the English version Paths of Glory, said Archer.
And if you're a die hard Jeffrey Archer fan, here's news for you. Over the week Archer will be making stop overs at Mumbai, Delhi, Pune and Bangalore to meet his readers. The next on the cards from the author is a collection of short stories titled And thereby hangs a tale
