Kanpur: In another question mark on the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh under Samajwadi Party rule, there are reports of fresh violence erupting in Kanpur. The police had to resort to lathi charge after a Samajwadi Party worker allegedly killed a man.
Clashes broke out between two groups after the Samajwadi Party worker, Prashant Tiwari, who owns a dhaba, beat up a truck driver who refused to pay him protection money.
The victim succumbed to injuries, following which angry locals set the SP worker's roadside restaurant on fire. There's heavy police presence in the area.
The development comes on a day when Mulayam Singh Yadav has asked Uttar Pradesh ministers to ensure partymen don't act like goons.
