Karachi: Pakistani plane catches fire, lands safely

Islamabad: A London-bound Pakistani plane made an emergency landing on Sunday after it caught fire during take off from Jinnah International Airport in the port city of Karachi. There was no immediate report of anyone being injured.

The Karachi-Lahore-London flight PK 787, reportedly carrying 167 passengers including the airline officials, landed safely at the airport. The incident occurred after one of the engines of the national carrier Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Airbus 310 caught fire during take off from the airport, forcing it to do an emergency landing, Dawn News reported.

An emergency was declared at the airport following the plane's take off from the runway. Director Airport Services Asif Bashir, however, said that the engine of the plane did not catch fire. It had only experienced a technical fault, The News reported.
