Chennai: Indian Squash Academy trainee Karan Malik scalped seeded Vikas Jangra of Services in the first round of the National senior squash championship here on Wednesday.
Malik defeated 5-8th seed Jangra 11-3 11-9 5-11 0-11 11-6.
Higher seeded players like defending champion Saurav Ghosal in men's section and top seed Dipika Pallikal in women's had an easy outing on the centre court.
However, Kush Kumar stole the limelight with his immaculate baseline game and variety of shots but lacked self-confidence in the decider where Nandrajog brought in his experience to win the marathon tie 6-11 11-6 11-5 9-11 12-10.
