Vasco da Gama: Karanataka rode on a solid batting performance to beat Kerela by 52 runs in a South Zone leg match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy One-Day Championship here on Friday. Asked to bat, their top six batsmen registered double digits scores as Karanataka piled up a huge 322 for five in their alloted 50 overs.

Openers Lokesh Rahul (86) and Robin Uthappa (54) gave a solid start to Karnataka's innings, stitching 112 runs for the opening stand. One-down Manish Pandey also got a start with a 34-ball 25. Captain Stuart Binny (60 off 55), Ganesh Satish (40 off 32) and Karun Nair (46 not out off 19) used their long handle to great effect towards the end to take Karnataka to the formidable total.

Left-arm spinner Padmanabhan Prasanth turned out to be the most successful bowler for Kerala picking up two wickets for 53 runs. Kerala's run chase got off a disastrous start as they lost their first three wickets with just 32 runs on the board in 9.2 overs.

Andhra Pradesh registered their second victory in a row with a thrilling 2 run-win over Hyderabad.

It took a 106-run fourth-wicket partnership between Robert Fernandez (55) and captain Sachin Baby (61) to stabilse Kerala's innings. After Baby and Fernandez's dismissal, Raiphi Gomez (44), Karimuttathu Rakesh (41 not out) and Prasanth (21 not out) tried hard to keep Kerala in the hunt, but the asking turned out to be too tall and they eventually finished at 270 for six.

Medium pacer H S Sharath showed a lot of promise with the ball for Karnataka with figures of four for 40.

At the MCC Ground, Andhra Pradesh registered their second victory in a row with a thrilling 2 run-win over Hyderabad, while at BITS Pilani ground Karnataka also registered their second win with 52 runs win over Kerala. Andhra bowlers came up with a superb performance to defend a modest total and deny Hyderabad victory in a low-scoring thriller in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (South Zone) match here on Friday.

Chasing Andhra's 202, Hyderabad lost the plot as four of their top order batsmen returned to dressing room in just 11 overs with mere 40 runs on board. Hyderabad eventually folded for 200 in 49.4 overs.

Andhra despite posting a low score, managed to defend it successfully as the pace duo of Syed Sahabuddin (4/46) and D P Vijaykumar (3/30) wreaked havoc. For Hyderabad, Hanuma Vihari was the highest scorer with a 89-ball 61, which included seven boundaries.

Earlier, Andhra batsmen also failed to get the momentum going and the only notable contributor was Bodapati Sumanth, who scored a fine 63 off 74 balls, studded with five hits to the fence and a six. Pragyan Ojha (3/24) and Aashish Reddy (3/52) returned with impressive figures.

In Porvorim, Tamil Nadu beat Goa by 92 runs. Half-centuries by Dinesh Karthik (90) and B Aparajith (75) steered Tamil Nadu to the victory over Goa in the South Zone Subbaih Pillai limited over cricket tournament played at PCA Ground here. Tamil Nadu piled up 274 for the loss of 9 wickets, built around Karthik's 90 from 87 balls and his fifth-wicket 120-run stand with Aparajith who contributed 75 in 65 balls.

For Goa, Saurabh Bandekar, Gaurish Gawas, Shadab Jakati and Reagan Pinto bagged two wickets each. Goa in reply, were all out for 182 runs in 43.1 overs as they suffered their second successive defeat. Only Ravikant Shukla showed some resistance to Tamil Nadu bowlers scoring 61 runs in 69 balls with 6 boundaries.
