Karnataka: Stopped from feeding crocodiles, tourists kill forest officer

New Delhi: In a shocking development from the Dandeli-Anshi tiger reserve in Karnataka, a forest officer has died after being allegedly attacked by a group of tourists. Assistant conservator of forest MH Nayak was allegedly hit on the head by the tourists after he tried to stop them from feeding crocodiles at the Kali River which is inside the tiger reserve.

The tourists were holidaying at a nearby resort.

Irate tourists dragged Nayak out from his car and beat him up. The collector suffered internal injuries on his back and legs and died on Tuesday night. Six people including two woman tourists were arrested on May 6. The women were released later. Incidentally, the owner of the resort has 2 cases of hunting lodged against him. Locals blocked all roads in Dandeli in protest against the death of the officer.
