Karnataka okays English in schools

Bangalore: The Karnataka cabinet has approved the teaching of English as a subject in all Kannada medium schools from the coming academic year, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti said on Saturday.

Emerging out of the Cabinet meeting, he told reporters that Kannada as a subject, would be made compulsory in all English medium schools.

"Kannada will be made compulsory, instead of optional, in the linguistic minority schools from Class 3 onwards," he said.
