Karnataka: Phase III of polling begins today

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: In Karnataka, the third and final phase of polling has started on Thursday. People are to vote in 69 constituencies in the northern districts and over 699 candidates are in the fray.

However, initial trends show that barely 10 per cent of the 1.17 crore voters have cast their votes in the first three hours of polling.

Close to 58,000 security personnel, including Central Paramilitary Forces and Karnataka State Reserve Police have been deployed to ensure free and fair polls.

BELGAUM BATTLE

bullet Only 41 per cent of the total respondents seemed to have any knowledge about Maharashtra's demand for merging Marathi-speaking areas in Belgaum with Maharashtra — an indication perhaps that the linguistic divide has taken a backseat in Karnataka.
