Bangalore: Unruly scenes and protests erupted in the Karnataka Assembly on Thursday afternoon when some RTI activists raised slogans from the Assembly's visitor gallery. Five persons were detained.
The activists were protesting against the appointment of Justice Y Bhaskar Rao as the Karnataka Lokayukta. Activists have said the government was not in a hurry to appoint a new Lokayukta since Justice Hegde's activism when he was the Lokayukta. Hegde's tenure saw many high profile ministers of the state government being slapped with corruption cases, which eventually led to their resignations.
The marshals of the Assembly evicted the protesting activists after a brief scuffle. They are now in police detention.
