New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday referred the matter to make Kannada a compulsory language in unaided schools at the primary level to a higher Constitutional bench. The apex court said there needs to be more clarity over what is a mother tongue.

The Karnataka government moved the apex court after the high court rejected its move.

The Karnataka High Court had rejected the move and had said that it goes against the Constitution.
