Karnataka schools may not get X-mas holidays

Bangalore: Schools in Karnataka have been in the news for all the wrong reasons for quite sometime.

It was the language controversy or the banana vs egg debate in the mid-day meal scheme. And now, it is about vacations.

From annual to trimester and now the semester system, the Karnataka Government has made these changes in the educational system in state run schools within two years.

And to add to that, Christmas vacations will now go missing from the school calendars. But students are not too worried.

“We are not really worried about these vacations. Those holidays are added in the Dassara or summer vacations,” says Manu Kumar G, a student of Sheshadripuram Boys High School.

This move came following the trimester system introduced by the government two years ago that was scrapped. And, the schools are not complaining.

Says N Shivkumar Aradhya, Principal, Sheshadripuram Boys High School, “Semester is a little better than trimester because we get more time to cover the portion, study time for students and other activities.”

No wonder the vacation issue has got a back seat with students being compensated with 10 days extra vacation during Dassara.

However, it is a move that might not go down too well with the Christian community though.
