Bangalore: Karnataka will give Rs 30 lakh to the family of National Security Guard (NSG) commando Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan who was killed in gunbattle with terrorists in Mumbai, spokesperson for the government said Sunday.
"Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa has sanctioned Rs. 3 million (30 lakh) to the slain Major's family," the spokesperson said.
Unnikrishnan was killed fighting terrorists in Mumbai's Taj Mahal Palace and Tower Hotel.
Kerala, from where Unnikrishnan's parents hail, has announced it will give Rs 15 lakh to the family.
Unnikrishnan's parents live in Bangalore. His father K Unnikrishnan is a retired officer of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
NSG chief JK Dutt met Unnikrishnan's parents at their residence in ISRO layout, about 12 km from the city centre, and offered condolences.
Dutt later said that NSG had lost a fine officer and a brave soldier.
