Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK) chief M Karunanidhi has said he would reconsider his support to the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government if the killing of Tamils in Sri Lanka continues.
The Lankan Army is reportedly closing in on the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) headquarters at Kilinochi.
Karunanidhi said he has raised the issue with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
"If this continues should we be a part of the alliance? This question needs an answer," Karunanidhi said.
Karunanidhi warned the Congress-led Central Government while addressing a rally in Chennai on Monday to protest the attacks on Sri Lankan Tamils by the Lankan Army.
National Security Advisor MK Narayanan had on Monday morning summoned the Sri Lankan Deputy High Commissioner at New Delhi to convey the country's protest over the attacks.
Karunanidhi said the DMK General Council would meet soon to decide the next course of action.
