Mumbai: The future of the sole surviving terrorist and accused of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, Mohammad Ajmal Kasab lies in the answer to the question – Will his defense lawyer defend him or not?
Meanwhile, Anjali Waghmare, the Mumbai lawyer who wants to defend Kasab, wants 24 hours to decide her stance after violent protests by crowds of Shiv Sainiks at her residence late on Monday night.
The special court is considering a contempt case against the protesters.
Advocate Anjali Waghmare said, "People of my country, my state and my city will provide me with security. I am sure nobody in India wants to see Kasab unpunished and I am going to help the court. "
Special Public Prosecutor Ujwal Nikam said, “In case if any people try to disable the lawyer from fighting the case, then that is disobeying the order of the court and they can be tried for contempt of court.
However, for the Shiv Sena, it’s less about the law and more about punishing Kasab even if it means taking on the legal proceedings.
Leader, Shiv Sena Sanjay Raut said, “Shiv Sena ka pehle se yeh stand hai kii Kasab ko phaasi lagni chahiye, gateway par jahir karke (Shiv Sena wants Kasab to be hanged).
Meanwhile following the incident, the police have registered FIR and arrested 9 persons including women.
The Shiv Sainiks justify their action in the name of patriotism but little do they understand that if Kasab goes undefended in the court, then despite a large body of evidence against him, chances are that the very Kasab they want to be hanged might even get acquitted.
