Kasab's ex-lawyer Anjali denies allegations

New Delhi: CNN-IBN caught up with Mohammad Ajmal Amir Kasab's lawyer Anjali Waghmare who has since been removed from the 26/11 attack case. The special court set up in the Arthur Road Jail to try Kasab removed Waghmare citing conflict of interest.

Waghmare has been removed for professional misconduct as she is also allegedly representing a witness, Harishchandra Shrivardhankar, in the 26/11 Cama Hospital firing case.

CNN-IBN: There was a case that you were fighting for a victim (of the terror attack in Mumbai on November 26, 2008) too. How much truth is there to that and what is the technical aspect because of that case which has caused the revocation in this case?

Anjali Waghmare: Yes. See, matter had been published in the newspapers that I am representing , allegedly representing the victim. I am specifying the world 'allegedly' and emphasising on these words because I have not filed vakalatnama nor signed any vakalatnama in any court, whatsoever. I have not filed any case or any petition, in whatsoever manner in any court. That is the reason I am saying 'allegedly representing'.

The court will now appoint another lawyer from the legal aid panel as Kasab's lawyer. Till a new lawyer is appointed Waghmare's assistant, KR Pawar will defend Kasab.

However, the court observed that they will be appointing a senior lawyer to defend Kasab.

There are 15 more lawyers in the legal aid cell and the new lawyer’s background will be checked by Mumbai Crime Branch before the appointment.
