New Delhi: After spending 35 years in a Pakistani jail, Kashmir Singh is back with his family.
Kashmir Singh reached his village to the sound of drumbeats.
After a hero’s welcome, within hours of crossing the Wagah border, he decided to drive through his village where he lived to refresh his childhood memories, meet friends and wellwishers.
It was nothing short of a procession, but it was God he wanted to thank first for giving him this day, which had waited for 35 long years.
“I went to the Gurudwara first and then visited friends,” said Kashmir Singh.
And the convoy was off to Kashmir Singh's sister's house, Surinder Kaur, who struggled for words to describe her elation.
“I could’t stop hugging him again and again,” said Surinder Kaur.
Though Kashmir Singh spent a harrowing 35 years in jail in Pakistan, he has kept his spirit and humour intact.
“I was always a child since childhood,” quipped Kashmir Singh.
But in this fairy tale welcome, there was perhaps only one thing missing---the presence of his mother, Swaran Kaur, who passed away just a few months ago. She had always hoped for his return.
