Srinagar: The temperature may be sub-zero in the Kashmir valley these days, but thanks to an Argentine coach, youngsters are still getting to play football, and participate in the first ever winter football tournament in Kashmir.

Even as the Valley is freezing but a group of youngsters are warming up for a football match.

Kashmir is seeing its first-ever winter football tournament with 16 clubs participating and the credit goes to a man from Argentina for motivating the boys.

"We have to keep training throughout the year. We cannot do training for only six months in the summer and spring. We have to also keep training when there is snowfall," Argentine coach Marcos says.

The rules of the game are slightly different. The field is smaller and there are only seven players per side. Traditionally the football season ends in Kashmir as soon the winter chill sets in but not this season.

"Even if there is snowfall but if ball is moving, coming on properly then we can practice and can play," Marcos says.

And the young footballers are loving it

"We are loving the fact that we are adapting to the international European culture right now and we are playing football the European way. The cold weather doesn't matter. The fact that European players don't stop in winters helps us in going on," Hashim, a young footballer, says.

After all it is the first time these young kids are playing football in sub-zero temperature.
