New Delhi: The first season of Shah Rukh Khan hosted Kaun Banega Crorepati might be over, but its still making news. The Delhi High Court has asked the Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Commission to investigate the way the quiz show is conducted.
This comes after a public interest litigation was filed by Anuj Kumar Bhati - questioning the way in which the contestants for fastest finger first round were selected.
Says the petitioner's advocate, Vipin Kumar, "Despite their timings having finished, the show sent two more SMSes saying you ask more questions so that they can reach a higher score."
While looking into the complaint the High Court further observed that there was also something mysterious in the way in which celebrity contestants on the show always ended up winning huge amounts of money unlike ordinary citizens.
Here's what some celeb participants won:
- On a holi special Preity Zinta and Rani Mukherjee bagged Rs 50 lakhs
- On a Munnabhai special, Sanjay Dutt and Boman Irani won Rs 50 Lakh
- And on the closing show participants Priyanka Chopra and Kareena Kapoor won Rs 25 lakhs, while Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif won Rs 25 lakh
Star TV meanwhile denies any manipulation in the process of participation or conduct of the show.
Says STAR Network advocate, Rajeev Nayar, "I am surprised at this part of the court's order because this was never the subject matter of the court's petition. This was never an issue, it was never raised and it was never argued either."
Though there's still a long time before Season II of KBC rolls out, there is no doubt that this controversy will keep the game show alive in public memory for the time being.
