Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) supporters and students on Thursday will take out a victory rally instead of the Assembly Chalo (march to the Assembly) rally they had planned after the Centre announced that the process to divide Andhra Pradesh and create the Telangana state would be initiated soon.
Celebrations started in Hyderabad as soon as Union Home Minister P Chidambaram announced the decision to move the Telangana resolution in Andhra Assembly.
Pro-Telangana supporters burst firecrackers on the streets and outside the Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad where TRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao ended his fast just as it was entering its 12th day.
A visibly weak KCR expressed his happiness at the Centre's announcement.
"I thank Sonia Gandhi, the Prime Minister Government of India, Opposition Leader LK Advani and other leaders who supported the cause of Telangana. It has been pursued by many martyrs. I thank all who participated for achievement of the cause," said KCR.
As a first step, the resolution for separate statehood will be moved in the Andhra Assembly. But the status of Hyderabad is still not clear.
The state Congress says that the question of making Hyderabad a union territory does not arise.
But the TRS has made it clear that Telangana without Hyderabad will not be acceptable.
