New Delhi: The demand for a separate state of Telangana carved out of 10 districts Andhra Pradesh have thrown the entire state into a turmoil.
Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) President K Chandrashekhar Rao broke his 11-day long fast only after Union Home Minister P Chidambaram announced on Wednesday night that the process to create Telangana would be initiates soon. TRS activists and students union in the region stopped their protests and celebrated Chidambaram's announcement.
But Centre decision to divided Andhra Pradesh saw MLAs and MPs belonging to the state protesting against the move with as many as 128 MLAs cutting across party line resigning from their Assembly membership.
After the protests in Rayalseema and coastal Andhra, Centre and state Chief Minister K Rosaiah said that the resolution to created Telangana would not be introduced in the Assembly any time soon.
In an exclusive interview to CNN-IBN, KCR's son KT Rama Rao said that his party will not agitate for creating Telangana and instead wait for a little longer for the state to be created.
CNN-IBN: You still believe that a Telangana resolution will be brought up in front of the Assembly? Congress has said that without consensus they would not bring it across and it doesn't look that any consensus will be coming any time soon.
KT Rama Rao: The consensus has already emerged and it was only after that the government decided to move a resolution in the Assembly. In fact the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh had called an all party meeting just a day before P Chidambaram made the announcement and all parties came out openly that they would support the resolution.
CNN-IBN: You will not further the agitations at the moment?
KT Rama Rao: As I said we are confident that the Government of India would keep its words, so there is no need for an agitation. We are confident that Telangana will be the 29th state of India.
CNN-IBN: Experts say it a win-win strategy for the Telangana Rashtra Samithi. If the resolution is brought the TRS is the hero and if the resolution is not brought any time soon the Congress becomes the villain. Do you agree?
KT Rama Rao: No, not really because it is the Telangana people who will be the hero. We have always said that the TRS is just the political face of the Telangana movement.
CNN-IBN: You don't feel that the Congress high command has betrayed the party and the fact that the MLAs from the Congress party are spearheading a movement against the Telangana state? You don't think the high command should take strict actions against them?
KT Rama Rao: This is nothing new. When a new state is formed there is bound to be some actions and I am sure the Congress party has sort out most of it in a great length. I am sure they'll be able to contain the situation.
