Kent county club has roped in South Africa bowling sensation Vernon Philander on a short-term deal. Philander, 28, has had an outstanding beginning to his Test career, taking 89 wickets in just 16 matches at a staggering 17.13.
Philander is eligible to play in Kent's FLt20 match against Middlesex on Friday and is also expected to play all forms of cricket for the club. "I'm really happy to be here, I hope to help the team to create some great chances and hopefully success," Philander, who has taken four wickets in seven Twenty20 internationals for South Afirca, told BBC. "I hope I can use my experience to help the team and also that I can be a good influence in the dressing-room."
"Vernon is an excellent signing for the Club. His Test Match record is remarkable, and we hope he will make a strong contribution to the Kent Spitfires' Friends Life T20 campaign, as well as kickstart an improvement in four-day results," Graham Johnson, Kent's chairman of cricket, said.
