Kogelo, Kenya: The village of Kogelo in Western Kenya is buzzing with excitement about the US presidential elections.
The US Presidential nominee frontrunner Barack Obama still has extended family here, including his half-brother Malik Obama.
Malik Obama says, "There is an opportunity for change and another thing is that this agent for change is home bred."
The family won't give their predictions for the race, but Malik, a local businessman, just can't help himself.
The village of Kogelo is also gearing up for ‘Obama Sports Day.’
Malik says, "I feel great. I feel really great. We are looking forward to a great celebration."
The family of Barack Obama is waiting breathlessly to see if he will win the presidency. But then again so is the entire village of Kogelo and for that matter the whole country of Kenya.
Throughout this election season Kenyans have become increasingly excited about an Obama presidency.
The wave of Obama mania began when he visited his grandmother in western Kenya in 2006 and drew huge crowds.
The presidential race has taken it to another level. You can buy CDS of Obama's speeches, wear Obama Tshirts and even eat Obama cake.
Barack Obama's aunt Hawa Auma says, "It is a competition which is fought in good spirit, and losing is a part of competition and so there won't be bad feelings."
Auma says, "I believe that God will grant him his wish to be the president."
The winner of the American election will soon be known. Here in Kenya, they are hoping to cheer their favorite son all the way to the white house.
