Kochi: This summer one can enjoy a vacation in the beautiful surroundings of Kerala — which is light on the wallet. There's a special fishing farm on the outskirts of Kochi that one can consider.
For the price of Rs 100 one can fish, have local seafood curry, wash it down with tender coconut water and spend a lazy afternoon snoozing on the hammock admiring the backwaters.
There is also an option of pedaling a boat for those who want to live it up.
The fish farm is set up by Matsyafed — which is the federation of fisherman's cooperatives in Kerala — and is in Njarakkal which is a 15 km drive from Kochi city.
It began advertising the fish farm as a tourist destination in 2007 and they have been overwhelmed by the response from tourists, more than a 1000 people have visited the fish farm.
"We came here to enjoy our summer vacations and love it here. It's a very soothing place and we've enjoyed the boating too," says Rejith a student who is visiting the farm.
"Basically this place has got a lot of potential and it's unique in terms of an aqua farm, where there is a concept I've never heard of till I came here. One can catch their own fish and have it made here. So it's a very unique and good concept started by the government," says a tourist Jacob John.
Beautiful surroundings, delicious food and vacation that keeps your pocket in mind. It doesn't get better than this.
