New Delhi: Days of public outcry has finally forced Kerala's indomitable Chief Minister to say sorry. VS Achuthanandan apologised for his remarks denigrating the family of slain NSG commando Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan.
“If any of my comments have hurt the sentiments of any member or friends of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan’s family, I express my regret for it,” says Achuthananadan.
Achuthanadan had heaped scorn on Sandeep's family after the commando's father turned him away from his house.
The angry Chief Minister on Sunday said, “If it wasn’t the Major's house, even a dog wouldn’t have glanced their way.”
The octogenarian leader has expressed regret over that comment but not before flexing some muscle inside the state assembly where he accused the opposition and the media of creating the controversy.
“We expected the Chief Minister to apologise in the house. But he has shamed each and every Malayalee with his words once again. He has no moral right to continue as the Chief Minister of Kerala. We demand his immediate resignation,” says opposition leader from Kerala Ommen Chandy.
However, Major Sandeep's family hasn’t yet reacted to it. Achuthanandan has weathered many storms in the past, but this incident has rendered a severe blow to his image.
