Kerala gears up to celebrate Thrissur Pooram

Thrissur: It's time once again for the colourful Thrissur Pooram in Kerala which starts on April 16.

With the historic festival being just under a week away, round-the-clock preparations are on at the two temples Thiruvambadi and Paramekkavu, which are the centre of this 200-year-old festival.

Vice President Thiruvambadi Dvaswom P. Chandrasekharan says, "All preparations for the smooth conduct of the greatest national festival Thrissur Pooram are on in full swing."

Preparations are also underway for a spectacular fireworks display. 35 different kinds of umbrellas are exchanged during the Kudamattam on the festival grounds, however the colour of parasols of the two temples varies.

Artist Babu says, " We make the designs in various colours and 30 artists are working here for the last five months to make the umbrellas and other items.

With all the hard work of the artist, Kerala is gearing up to celebrate yet another colourful Thrissur Pooram.
