Kerala godman accused of cheating arrested

Thiruvanthapuram: Kerala godman Amritha Chaithanya, whose real name apparently is Santosh Madhavan, has been taken into custody by the Kerala Police.

Sources said he has been taken to an unidentified location in Kochi for questioning.

There was an Interpol Red Corner Alert against him since Thursday. He is accused of cheating one Sarafin Edwin of Rs 50 lakh in Dubai some years ago.

Based on an e-mail complaint the Kerala police had raided his property on Sunday and recovered porn CDs, documents of land deals, bottles of liquor and a tiger skin.

However, legal experts say the godman may get away as the cheating case against him in Dubai may not have legal standing in India.

Although there were plans to book the Swami under the Wildlife Act for possessing a tiger skin, it is now suspected that even that is a fake.
