Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Assembly was rocked for the second day on Wednesday over issues relating to former minister KN Ganesh Kumar with opposition LDF demanding that Chief Minister Oommen Chandy quit for allegedly shielding him in his wife's domestic violence complaint. Chandy on his part rejected the charge that he had sought to shield Kumar by declining to act on his estranged wife's complaint, saying this was totally untrue.

"There is no conspiracy to which I have been part, as being alleged by the opposition," he told reporters in reply to queries by reporters during his Cabinet meeting briefing. The Congress leader alleged LDF is trying to make political mileage out of the film star-turned-politician's marital discord.

In the Assembly, the slogan shouting LDF members trooped into the well of the House accusing Chandy of shielding Kumar and not acting on the complaint by Yamini Thankachi. As the opposition kept up the protest demanding that the submission of CPI-M leader VS Achuthanandan on the issue be taken up as the first item in the Zero Hour, Speaker G Karthikeyan asked the government to rush through the agenda and adjourned the House ahead of the day's schedule for the second consecutive day.

Marital dispute: Chandy rejects opposition's charge

The Congress leader alleged LDF is trying to make political mileage out of the film star-turned-politician's marital discord.

Kumar, the lone member of Kerala Congress (B), a minor partner in the UDF, was forced to resign in the wake of his wife lodging a police complaint accusing him of subjecting her to domestic violence. Police also registered separate FIRs yesterday against Kumar and Yamini on their respective complaints.

During the Question Hour itself, the LDF members had come to the House carrying placards alleging that Chandy deceives Kumar's wife, who was a victim of domestic violence by ignoring her complaint. There was no let up in opposition protests despite repeated appeals by the Speaker.
