Khairlanji victim blames village

CNN-IBN

Nagpur: The Khairlanji dalit massacre case has taken a new twist with 24 of the 47 accused being granted bail.

The CBI has chargesheeted only 11 accused and says it does not have enough evidence against the rest.

But Bhaiyyalal Bhotmange, the lone survivor of the massacre, alleges that the whole village was responsible for the incident.

“The whole village is to blame. Had they not been equally guilty they would have at least come out in the open. Now let it go, forget it. But I will still say that everyone’s to blame equally,” says and embittered Bhotmange.

Bhotmange’s family was massacred by upper caste villagers in Khairlanji on September 29.

After violent protests across Maharashtra, the case was handed over to CBI and Bhotmange had testified that nearly 50 villagers were involved.

But the CBI has so far been able to chargesheet only 11 of the accused. I will fight for my family. I will make sure justice is doen,” he says.

Locals campaigning for justice for the victims say they have lost faith in the CBI..

The culprits get away without being brought to task. Now whom do we go to justice for,” says social activist, Asit Bagre.

The CBI continues to be tightlipped about the investigations and the session's court in Bhandara has now given CBI one last chance to submit their report, after which a fast track court will be set up to try the accused.
