Chandrapur: Monica, a 5-year-old nursery student, lost an eye after a teacher hit her with a cane.

Monica’s father Rajesh Rammya says, “Doctor says the eye cannot be treated.”

Just a few hours back Monica was at school and now the five-year-old is in hospital, her eye plastered all over.

Monica is in pain because of an overzealous teacher's act of punishment for not paying attention in class.

Her teacher had hit her with a cane, but it went right inside her eye. As a result, Monica has lost vision in her left eye.

Her father says, “Her eye was hurt when the teacher hit her with a ruler.”

The children of Stella Maris Convent in Chandrapur, near Nagpur were witnesses to the incident but despite their complaints no action has been taken against the teacher who is now in hiding.

Joint Executive President of Stella Meris Convent Virendra Singh says, “Why should the management act when the court is already looking into it.”

But the police say no complaint has been registered so far.

Chandrapur Sub-Inspector Sanjay Shirbhate said, “We have not received any written complaint without that we can't do anything.”

With both school management and police washing their hands of the matter, any hope for justice could well be misplaced.
