Patna: A six-year old boy in Bihar who was kidnapped a month ago was killed by the kidnappers for not being paid the ransom money. The boy's family grieves his death but for the police and the state authorities, the incident is nothing more than a routine.

Ankit’s case is just another addition to the statistic of Bihar's thriving kidnapping industry. Over 900 persons were kidnapped across the state in just the first three months in 2007, shows the state's crime graph.

Ankit was kidnapped from outside his school St Pauls in Patna on April 11. Police had suspected the hand of the family's domestic help Balaram in the crime.

"We have arrested Balram. He is being interrogated in the custody. The boy was killed on the 13th of this month. The man revealed that the kidnappers buried the dead body somewhere in Chapra," Kundan Krishnan Senior SP, Patna said.

Patna's school children who had started a campaign for his release are now shattered. "He was our classmate and friend. His death is shock for us all," said Guddu, Ankit’s classmate.

Police is now digging a spot in Chhapra, a few kilometers away from Patna, where they suspect the boy was buried by the kidnappers. Clearly, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's promise of cracking down on crime within three months of taking over is a ringing hollow.
