Amit Kumar denies forceful kidney transplants

The key accused in the kidney scam, Amit Kumar has denied charges of forceful kidney transplants and instead claims that the patients used to bring their own donors. He spoke to CNN-IBN in Jaipur. Here are excerpts of the chat, translated from Hindi.

Amit Kumar: I have never removed anyone's kidney without their consent.

The patient brings his own donor.

We simply extend our professional services.

We can't take the kidney out illegally and just plant it someone else's body.

The kidney has to work in the body in which it is transplanted.

Wherever destiny took me I worked there. I was in Jaipur for some time. I have my own set up in Gurgaon and I have been working there for 10 years now.

I have not worked under assumed names. I have one name and that is Amit Kumar. Yes, I worked in Khar (Mumbai), too, for some time.

However, the name on my degree is my old name. But I have been working under the name Amit Kumar for as long as I can remember.

I don't want to go into so much detail.

I don't know why the authorities are doing whatever they are doing right now — but I guess it is their duty.

First I shall talk to them and then I will talk to you.

CBI Inquiry Ordered

Meanwhile, even though the kidney kingpin has denied all the charges, a CBI inquiry has been ordered into the case.

Union Home Minister, Shivrajj Patil said the Lok Sabha on Tuesday that the Centre has asked the CBI to look into the case.
