Here are reviews of Shamim Padamsee's books 'Rebels in Rajasthan' and 'Poachers in Paradise' by an eight-year-old, Arunima Kaul, the books are published by Penguin India.
Book: Rebels in Rajasthan; Author: Shamim Padamsee
This story is about a flying magic jharokha, invented by Uncle Jadoo who disappeared. He had been kidnapped by an evil djinn. The jharokha can take you anywhere you want. Vayu and Deeya have to find seven keys in order to save their uncle. With Uncle Jadoo's clues in hand and with the help of Jhoky, the boy from the jharokha the two children reach the deserts of Rajasthan, where they over hear a plot to kill the prince and the princess. Very cleverly they manage not only to save the prince and princess but also find the first key. I found the book very delightful and interesting. My favourite part of the story was when Deeya and Vayu find the first key. My favourite character was Vayu. I liked him because he had lots of information about things and people and was very fond of eating! (Illustration By - Adrija Shukla)
Book: Poachers in Paradise; Author: Shamim Padamsee
In the second book of this series the magic jharokha goes to Kashmir, the paradise on Earth. Vayu and Deeya with the help of Jhoky now need to find the second key to free their Uncle Jadoo from the evil djinn's clutches. The two children meet Zoon, a Kashmiri girl and her dog Chimpu. Chimpu was my favourite character. He was very clever and became Vayu and Deeya's friend too. He helped them catch the poachers. He even bit one of the poachers on his bottom! In fact it was Chimpu who found the key! He became hero no. 1. The next clue I'm sure will lead us to Assam. (Illustration By - Adrija Shukla)
