Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee seems to be cashing in on Kolkata Knight Riders' recent victory. On Tuesday morning the team will be having a victory procession in the city thanking the people of Bengal for their love and support.
The team alongwith Khan is in Kolkata for a roadshow that will culminate at the Writers' building where Khan will present the cup to Mamata on Tuesday.
Mamata will then proceed to Eden Gardens for a special felicitation ceremony. The Trinamool Congress chief has welcomed all to come for the ceremony. "The team said they would bring the cup home. They're grateful and I thank them. I appeal to everybody to come and attend the celebration," Mamata said.
The KKR players will get some gifts from the West Bengal government including blue and white embroidered scarves for each player, gold chain with 'Bengal loves you' inscribed on it and cake sandesh which resembles the team logo.
Hundreds of people from across the state have already started coming in leaving a tough challenge for Kolkata police on Tuesday .
The newly crowned IPL champions got a hero's welcome in Kolkata, not just from the fans but also from Trinamool Congress (TMC) ministers on Monday.
The team led by Gautam Gambhir and local hero Manoj Tewari was felicitated outside the airport by three state ministers and a Trinamool Congress MP.
Each team member was introduced on the stage to rousing applause from the fans who had gathered there.
"Thanks for support. Ami Kolkate chele (I'm Kolkata's son)," Gambhir had said.
