Ahmedabad: Gujarat IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt who blew the whistle on Narendra Modi's role in the Gujarat riots says he has more vital info on the CM's role. He says he'll pass it on to Nanavati Committee that is investigating the Gujarat riots.
"I will tell Nanavati Commission that and much more because I was privy to much more. When I approached the SC with the affidavit, I told them that I know much more which I can reveal to the honorable court as and when I am called upon to do so. If the commission is interested in finding out the truth and if given an opportunity to speak up the truth, I can come out with all the facts I can recollect at this point of time," said Bhatt.
Accepting the fact that he knows more even beyond the February 27 information and that he would come out with it before the Nanavati Commission was a very important point Bhatt made.
On Friday Bhatt, who dared to speak against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on the post-Godhra riots, lost his security details. The Gujarat government ignored the recommendation of its police force, and scaled down senior police officer Sanjiv Bhatt's security. Under orders from the DGP, policemen of the Junagadh SRP Training Centre took away the SRP commandoes from senior officer Bhatt, as well as his official car. Now, just one armed constable will guard Bhatt and his family.
"There are commandos who are posted and working here. I have come with orders from our Principal to shift them back to the centre," said DB Bambhaniya, PI, SRP Training Centre, Junagadh.
Home Minister P Chidambram, lashed at the state government saying that it was the duty of the state government to ensure Bhatt's security so that no harm comes to him.
From February 14th and April 15th this year, Bhatt wrote six letters to the government and the Special Investigative Team (SIT) probing the riots of 2002, seeking adequate and fool proof security for him and his family. He also mentioned this in his affidavit before the Supreme Court.
Four days ago, the government deployed an armed constable at his house, but on Friday, withdrew five SRP commandos who were posted for his security.
Bhatt, in his affidavit before the apex court, said he is apprehensive about his and family's safety, because his confidential deposition before the Supreme Court-monitored SIT has been leaked in real time to the state government. Earlier this week, he was also accosted and confronted thrice by a man, who has been detained by the police.
"I had requested for adequate and fool proof security for me and my family. That's for them to decide what is adequate…whether one armed man is adequate, and whether it is fool proof or not. The state has to decide. Providing security is the onus of the state," said Sanjiv Bhatt.
