Know the real Mamata Banerjee in her new book

Kolkata: She's made history by toppling the 34-year-old Left regime in the West Bengal but there's more to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Not many people know that she's written 33 books also. The latest is 'My Unforgettable Memories'. The 190-page memoir written in English carries some rare pictures and chronicles her life, her loss and her fights.

Mamata Banerjee said, "Whenever I am on the treadmill, I think about writing and putting my thoughts together."

The loss of her father and father figure in Rajiv Gandhi, the bitter separation from the Congress and her decades of struggle against the Left when she cheated death, the Didi of Bengal opens her heart to her readers.

Krishna Bose, former MP, says, "She is an extremely interesting character and it was important her story was told to people outside Bengal."

Shuvaprasanna, a painter, says "It was important that people knew about her so we decided that this book should come out. And it's different from her political life. It's more personal."

Priced at Rs 250 this memoir packs in her memories of childhood, her years of struggle and moments of hurt and despair - a chronicle for those who want to know the real didi who took Bengal by storm.
