New Delhi: ICICI Bank's Joint Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer Chanda Kochhar will be the new CEO of the bank.
Kochhar will take over as the CEO of ICICI Bank from May 2009 from Managing Director and CEO KV Kamath at a time when the world is facing a recession.
"The leadership capabilities of a leader and the strength of an organisation are best tested in a challenging time. So I don't regret the timing at all. I am very happy to take the mantle at this point of time," Kochhar said confidently.
Kochhar rise to this leadership position began in 1984 when she joined the bank as a trainee and was a part of the core team that set up the bank in 1994
She led the infrastructure projects that put ICICI Bank on its growth trajectory and by 2001 she become the Executive Director of ICICI's retail business, integrating retail franchises of ICICI and ICICI Bank as well as other acquisitions.
Kochhar was tested when the global meltdown sparked off rumours about ICICI's financial health but she held fort with and managed to successfully quell all rumours.
So as a small town girl from Jodhpur takes charge of India's leading private bank India's corporate boardrooms are making way for another woman business leader.
