Kolkata auto owner harassed by loan recovery agents

Howrah: When Dilip Senapaty applied for an auto-loan with Cholamandalam DBS about a year ago, he wasn't prepared for the kind of price he's paying for it now.

The auto-owner was beaten up by goons sent by a recovery agency in broad day-light. Dilip invited their wrath because he had stopped paying the monthly installments to the finance company.

“Four goons held me at gunpoint and later beat me,” recalls Dilip.

When asked why he wasn't paying his dues, Dilip clarified that he had been punctual with the payments, but it is the finance company, which hasn't given him the receipts for the last two installments. Despite repeated requests, the company did not respond. So Dilip took the decision to stop paying.

The goons apparently even tried taking away Dilip's vehicle, but were stopped by onlookers. An FIR has been registered at the Howrah police station. One of the goons in the recovery team, Indrajit Guha has been arrested and hunt is on for the remaining three.

“It is illegal to use violence to recover money,” says SP Howrah, Neeraj Kumar Singh.

Predictably, Cholamandalam DBS is silent on the incident.
