Press Trust Of India

Kolkata: Goalkeeping legend Oliver Kahn bids adieu to competitive soccer on Tuesday as famed German outfit Bayern Munich meet local side Mohun Bagan in an exhibition floodlit tie at the Salt Lake stadium here.

Kahn, who turns 40 next month has announced his decision to hang his gloves from next month after a 20-year career as a professional during which he won eight German championships and six German Cups besides winning the golden ball award in the 2002 World Cup.

King Kahn's last match for Bayern would be the highlight of the friendly exchange, which forms the last leg of the German giant's post-season Asian tour.

A full house of 1,20,000 is expected to cheer Kahn, who would be felicitated with a gold plated ball studded with 8,564 diamonds ahead of the match that could turn out to be as lopsided as a cricketing battle between India and Papua New Guinea.

Bagan are without their stars - national skipper Bhaichung Bhutia, who is busy with Indian team duty, while Brazilian striker Jose Barreto is yet to return from Brazil after a delayed trip back home following a Customs-related problem.

Several of their other stars are also unavailable as they are with the national team, and the green and maroon brigade is relying on a bunch of youngsters from the Tata football academy who have joined the club this season.
