Kolkata: Congress, TMC workers clash over college elections, one policeman dead

Kolkata: One police sub inspector died and four students were injured when clashes broke out between Congress and Trinamool Congress workers in Kolkata on Tuesday. The two parties' workers clashed over filing of nomination papers for student elections outside Hari Mohan College in Kolkata's Garden Reach area.

Tapas Chakrobarty, special branch, succumbed to his injuries after being shot at. Three people have been arrested in connection with the violence.

"As informed to me by locals there, one criminal, who was with CPM first, now with Congress, had opened fire. It had nothing to do with the students. There were criminals from outside, who were trying to create a phobia," said Bobby Hakim, MLA, Garden Reach.

Rapid Action Force has been deployed in the area, along with heavy police presence.
