New Delhi: It may not be most people's idea of an ideal Sunday morning but 42 kilometers hit the spot, for 600 people at the 5th Kolkata Marathon.
Don't mistake this for a rock concert. This was the entertainment arranged for those who weren't in a mood to run for the 5th Airtel Kolkata Marathon, but wanted some fun anyway.
While 600 odd men and women ran the entire 42-kilometre marathon, many dropped by just to cheer.
One of the participant Riyad Wadsha said, “The main idea of the marathon was fun and that's what we had."
The spirit was there. But most of the stars weren't. The Kolkata Marathon couldn't score too many points on celebrity appearances. Ace footballer Bhaichung Butia was the only national face in the crowd. And though Sourav Ganguly is in Kolkata, dada decided to give this run a miss.
Actress June Maliah said, “I hope this spirit goes on year after year. In fact I was just telling someone that even when I am 75 years old I would come here with my grand children."
But with prize money of about Rs 8.5 lakhs and a few hours of uninterrupted fun, no one was complaining.
