Kolkata: Women protesters, who had gathered outside Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's residence in Kalighat to demand better security for women, were detained in Kolkata on Thursday.
The protesters were a part of a woman's group called Maitrayee. They wanted to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister with demands for better security for women. The protest was reportedly peaceful and the demonstrators were only singing and chanting slogans.
Kalighat is a high-security zone where protests are prohibited. The demonstrators were taken in a police van to Lalbazar police station.
