CHENNAI: On the eve of the resumption of their stir at Idinthakarai against the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP), the agitators got support from neighbouring Kerala as well. Students belonging to All India Catholic Union Federation in Kerala have arrived at the venue to take part in a token fast that was announced a few days ago.
The students said they intend to create awareness about the dangers of atomic plant in Kerala too.
The anti-plant team had met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at New Delhi on October 7 but expressed dissatisfaction over the outcome. Later, S P Udayakumar, coordinator of the agitation, said the token fast on Sunday would go as scheduled.
Though the Prime Minister had announced that a committee comprising representatives from Central government, Tamil Nadu government and the agitators would be formed to resolve the issue amicably, the panel is yet to be formed. Udayakumar had categorically said that the agitators would not hold talks with the committee if it comprises nuclear experts alone.
At the fast on Sunday, the protestors will chalk out their future course of action in this regard.
Talking to media persons, the local people expressed their resentment against the stand taken by the Prime Minister on the issue.
