Determined to continue his stature as a lone crusader and taking a divergent view from the official CPM line, party veteran and Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan has stuck to his plan to visit Koodankulam in Tamil Nadu to express solidarity with the agitators who are waging a war against the nuclear power plant project there.
He will leave here at 9.30 am on Tuesday.
Although the state police, on directions from their Tamil Nadu counterparts, have appealed to him to call off his plan in view of the law and order issues, VS is in no mood to budge.
Already, he has thrown a challenge to the party central and state leadership by openly aligning with the agitators.
The CPM’s official position on the issue is that the closure of the plant is not practical as the work on it had been completed by spending Rs 15,000 crore.
