Krazzy row over but HC makes 'lifting' tough

Mumbai: "I want to tell Roshan ji, don’t worry the film will release tomorrow with the songs. “This is what item girl Rakhi Sawant said about the Krazzy 4 early on Thursday morning.

And her words seemed quite prophetic. But while the film will release on Friday with its soundtrack intact, the makers will face the music for copyright infringement.

Music composer Ram Sampath won the legal battle against the filmmakers in the Bombay High Court. Sampath had filed a case against Krazzy 4 producer Rakesh Roshan and music director Rajesh Roshan, stating he was not given due credit for the film’s music, which had been copied from a jingle he had earlier composed for a mobile phone commercial.

The music director had also claimed Rs 2 crore as damages.

On Thursday morning, the High Court ordered the film would have to release without the contentious songs, but after the producers and the petitioner negotiated and agreed upon a settlement, the case was dismissed.

“I have got what i wanted. I have also got my due credit. This will be become a precedent for all future copyright cases," said Sampath.

Though the amount that FilmKraft will have to pay as damages to the petitioner is not known, at the end of the day, Bollywood would now perhaps agree that one will really have to be Krazzy to copy ever again.
