Bangalore: He was the man who dreamt the Shanghai dream for India's silicon city Bangalore.
But nearly a decade later, S M Krishna, former chief minister of Karnataka and the one credited with bringing IT to the fore, admits his dream remained unfulfilled and that he couldn't deliver on his promise.
“Honestly, between 1999 and 2004, we looked at investment but not at infrastructure,” he says.
Perhaps the timing of this confession couldn't have been better.
With the state in election mode, Krishna seems to be indicating that, given a chance, this time around, promises made by his party will be honoured.
“Infrastructure is going to be given a prominent place in our manifesto,” he says.
With the city grappling with sagging infrastructure problems, that seems to be the key promise in almost all party election manifestos in Karnataka.
But Bangalore will have to wait and watch to see whether this time Krishna’s dream actually translates into reality.
